Wine Wednesday: Domaine Coudoulis
POSTED ON JUNE 12, 2013Happy Wine Wednesday! Today’s wine is a crowd pleasing Côtes du Rhône from the Lirac appellation. With notes of juicy plum and cocoa, who wouldn’t love this taste of Southern France?
This delightful Côtes du Rhône is primarily made of Grenache, blended with about 20% Syrah and only about 5% Mourvedre. For Grenache lovers this is especially pleasing. This particular Côtes du Rhône comes from the Lirac appellation in Southern France, right next to where Châteauneuf-du-Pape is grown, which may account for its fine quality and nature.
This 2010 red has a harmonious blend of plum and fig that mingles deliciously with a touch of cocoa. Along with the floral aroma of ripe fruit and spice, it’s juicy but also has mild toasty, smoky notes. Medium-bodied, this has a long and smooth, soft velvety finish. This would be perfect to drink now but one wonders what another 4-5 years might bring to this excellent wine.
Priced moderately at around $15, this is a fine way to try a higher quality French wine without sticker shock. At a recent wine tasting, this was the unanimous winner! Enjoy!
